Ål
Kirke
This church serves the eastern part of Gran parish and was dedicated on March 2, 1930. Because of the rerouting of the road from Oslo in the 1860's and the construction of a railroad station in 1900, this area experienced a significant growth in population and wanted their own church. The church was built with much donated labor, including the services of architect Magnus Poulson, whose design for the church was inspired by the old stave churches. After his retirement from the regular ministry in 1916, Johan Chr. Selmer-Anderssen worked tirelessly for many years to make a church in this area a reality. He was able to participate in the dedication services in 1930, but died suddenly just a few days later. |
