A dozen Hadelanders
gathered at the Volstead House House in Granite Falls to
learn about Norwegian-American Andrew Volstead, powerful
chairman of the US House Judiciary Committee and author of
the Volstead Act that provided the means for enforcing the
18th Amendment. We then journeyed to Milan where Ron Porep, Executive Director of Milan's Village Art School told us about the school history, curriculum, and some of the pieces on display. Around the corner and up Main Street the Arv Hus Museum and Billy's Maple Tree gift shop gave us a chance to sample local history and shop! Our last stop was at Immanuel Church outside Watson where we were warmly welcomed . That evening, almost 20 of us gathered at Duffy's Good Time Saloon for dinner and conversation.. |

Twenty one members and guests had coffee rolls, muffins, and fruit to start our day in the Village Hall in Historic Chippewa City in Montevideo. We held a brief meeting and reviewed the financial report, changing plans for the 2023 stevne (for which the Hadeland Lag is in charge) and possible plans for next year's Høst Samling and 2024 trip to Norway. Celeste Suter, executive director of the Chippewa County Historical Society. gave an excellent presentation on the history of the county. We enjoyed the sandwich bar lunch and then people checked out the rest of the village, travelled to tour Swensson Farm, or worked on genealogy. We were unable to screen the film "Sweet Land" as planned because of preparations for a wedding reception scheduled in that space for later that afternoon. |
