2002 Stevne
July 11-13 - St. Olaf College Northfield, MN
Members of the Seven Lags gathered in Northfield, Minnesota for the annual Stevne, "Joining Hands and Dancing." Thursday and Friday morning the genealogy room was open for members. The Norwegian-American Historical Association's library makes its home on the St Olaf campus. Many members took advantage of both guided tours of the library and its resources. Friday afternoon the Opening Ceremony included greetings from each of the Lags and music by Kristi Bergland. Friday evening we were entertained by the Junior Spelemanns Laget from Bø, Telemark. Saturday morning each lag held their business meeting. Saturday afternoon, members took an automobile trip to historic Valley Grove Lutheran Church. Saturday evening's banquet was held at the American Legion in Northfield. The Bunad parade was followed by more music by Bø Spelemann's Laget and traditional dancing by Dassel Keikarring. |

Message from Hadeland:
Dear All Hadelanders at the Seven-Lag Stevne in Northfield The Kontaktforum Hadeland-Amerika sends our best wishes for this year's stevne. All of us who were along on Amerikatur 2001 have lived this year with all the memories we have about the once-in-a-lifetime tour last summer in the Midwest. Everywhere we went we were met by interested and hospitable descendants of emigrants from Hadeland, so we felt as though we were home in Norway. Again we say "TUSEN TAKK" for all you did so that the trip was so successful. As a result of this good contact which has arisen between the Hadeland Lag of America and the historical societies and the museum at Hadeland, the Kontaktforum Hadeland-Amerika was established this winter. The biggest task for us will undoubtedly be our project to find out what happened to as many as possible of the emigrants from Hadeland after they went to America. This is a task which cannot be completed unless you help us. We have already received information about many of the emigrants, and we are very grateful for the good response we have received among the members of the Hadeland Lag for our big and important project. We know there is a lot of material about the emigrants and their descendants and we greatly appreciate all that we receive. We also hope that those who have not written down the story of their family from Hadeland will begin soon; this is both an enjoyable and important task, which we are certain that our descendants will appreciate what we have done. Thank you for all that we have received so far and we wait for more. Again, many good greetings to all of you, known and unknown members of the Hadeland Lag of America. We are sure that you will have a great stevne at St Olaf College, that fantastic and grand place in Northfield which is known throughout the world. We were very fortunate to be able to visit St. Olaf a year ago, and send special greetings to our hosts when we visited there, Lois and Sidney Anders Rand. Kontaktforum Hadeland-Amerika Ole P. Gamme
