2022 Class Reimbursement Pilot Program
Mission: To encourage the youngest generation of Hadeland descendants to learn about and value their heritage through participation in Norwegian language and cultural classes.
Reimbursement fund: When a scholarship is not awarded, as occurred in 2021, that $500 will be made available to Hadeland descendants age 23 or younger to reimburse classes that explore some element of Norwegian history or culture.
Reimbursement amount: Up to $250 for a single program or college class that is Norwegian in focus (The content of "Scandinavian" or "Nordic" classes may or may not be acceptable). Multi-session classes are eligible for reimbursement up to the reimbursement program limits; reimbursement for single session classes is limited to $25.

The program must provide age-appropriate exposure to Norwegian culture and history.·Eligible classes can range from Norwegian history, language, and music, to traditional folk crafts (rosemaling, Hardanger embroidery, wood carving, etc) or folk dancing. The scholarship committee is responsible for approving program content. A Norwegian summer camp is not eligible for reimbursement under this program.
Course must begin on or after September 1, 2020 and be completed by August 31, 2022.
Applications will be considered until $500 has been disbursed or reserved. Deadline for application for reimbursement is July 31, 2022.
An application may be made prior to course completion and the funds will be reserved, but payment will not be made until proof of completion is provided. If proof of completion is not provided within 30 days of completion, the funds will be released and can be used for other applicants.
The Board of Directors may decide to subsidize specific classes for members or their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the Hadeland Lag's general fund and will not reduce the reimbursement fund.

A Hadeland Lag member may only sponsor one successful application for either camp scholarship or class reimbursement per year.
A qualified applicant can receive reimbursement for one class each year. Norwegian camp scholarship recipients cannot apply for class reimbursement during the same scholarship year.
To receive reimbursement, the applicant must provide
proof of completion (if for a college course, a grade of "C" or above is required)
proof of payment (receipt or cancelled check) prior to receiving reimbursement.

The board will appoint a scholarship committee of 1-4 individuals to manage the yearly reimbursement program. These individuals do not have to be members of the board.
The scholarship committee will determine the eligibility of each class for reimbursement and be responsible for limiting total reimbursements to $500 per year.
Applications will be accepted from date of announcement through July 31 of the following year.
The scholarship committee will review all applications and certify that all application requirements have been met. The committee will notify the applicant and sponsor of their decision within 30 days of receipt.
Once class completion requirements have been met the committee will authorize the treasurer to issue a check for reimbursement to the sponsor.
The committee will provide a quarterly report of reimbursements approved and paid that includes the following information: name of applicant and sponsoring member, name of course and sponsoring organization/institution, and the disbursement amount authorized. This information will be published on the website and in the next issue of Brua.
The committee will notify the Board of Directors when reimbursement funds have been exhausted.
Commissions on Hadeland Lag "gear" will be directed to the Scholarship Fund
