Norskedalen, Coon Valley, Wisconsin

Days Inn, LaCrosse WI

The meeting took place at Norskedalen near La Crosse WI.  The regular business meeting was followed by a presentation by our special guest from Norway, Ole Gamme. Following a buffet lunch, Blaine Hedberg from the Norwegian-American Genealogical Association in Madison provided an overview of the activities, resources, and services available from this organization.  Saturday evening members gathered for dinner at the Days Inn in La Crosse.

Norskedalen ("Norwegian Valley")  is a nature and heritage center dedicated to preserving, interpreting and sharing the natural environment and cultural heritage of the area surrounding Coon Valley in southwest Wisconsin.  Dr. Alf Gunderson and his wife Carroll donated the land in 1977 for use as an outdoor laboratory and arboretum.  It has since grown to 400 acres and includes the Thrune Visitor's Center, the Bekkum Pioneer Homestead, the Skumsrud-Thrune farm, a heritage trail, the Gundersen Arboretum, numerous hiking trails, streams, and spectacular scenery.
