"Let's Rally in the Valley"
July 12-14 North Dakota State College of Science
Wahpeton North Dakota
The 2007 stevne was held at the North Dakota State College of Science from Thursday, July 12 through Saturday, July 14th. The Genealogy room was open Thursday and Friday morning, and a menu of excellent presentations and classes were also available. Among presenters were Lag members Verlyn Anderson, Dave Gunderson, and Anne Sladky. They offered sessions on "Norwegian Immigrant Settlements in the Midwest," "The Hadeland Emigrant Identification Project," and "Internet Genealogy Research," respectively. Thursday afternoon, an area tour included the Otter Tail County (MN) Museum and Phelps Mill near Underwood MN. Coffee and goodies were served during a stop at Tingvold Church.
Friday's opening session included greetings from lag presidents, the Bygdelagenes Fellesraad, NDSCS, Wahpeton's mayor, and the Norwegian consul from Minneapolis. Entertainment was provided by the Accordion band from the Kringen Sons of Norway Lodge in Fargo ND. Friday evening's entertainment was a presentation of "Plain Hearts," which was a series of vignettes about the prairie life of women from the 1850's to the 1920's.
Saturday's annual meeting was followed by recollections of life in Hadeland during World War II by the Lag's special guest from Hadeland, Hans Nęss, recent recipient of the King's Medal of Honor.
The banquet and Bunad parade provided a festive ending for this year's get-together. Saturday evening's entertainment was provided by "Tennessee Ernie Fjord & Company."
The Hadeland Lag offered congratulations to Telelaget, which celebrated its 100th anniversary at the stevne.
