A law in 1851 dictated that at least 20 percent of a church's congregation should be able to attend its services. As a result, the two existing parish churches, St. Peter's and Grinaker stave church, were replaced by the "new" Tingelstad church in 1866. It was designed by architects von Hanno and Schirmer and made of red stone. Many of its accouterments were taken from the old stave church, including the pulpit, baptismal font, and one of the church bells. |
